HOMELESS PEOPLE WERE ONCE CUTE BABIES

Seriously. They were.

A lot of people have a negative opinion on the homeless in city communities. The constant pour of publishings claiming that they make up to $500 a day panhandling, only purchase alcohol/cigarettes, receive enough help with welfare etc.... its all detrimental.

There are different kinds of homeless people... PEOPLE. There are of course drug abusers, alcoholics, criminals, youth on the fritz etc. But there are also elderly, mentally handicapped, and physically handicapped people with no families or no ability to KNOW if they have a family.

The Reagan administration created them by defunding and shutting down mental health institutions across the
country. Those individuals who either did not have families with funding to take care of them--- or who did not have families in general- were literally kicked to the curb. Many of them in their 30s and 40s. NOW they are in their 50's, 60's, and 70's. The fact that they have survived is a pure miracle.

These people may be undesirable to many in conversation, form, and hygiene--- but they cant help it! LITERALLY! Many of these people could be someones grandma, mother, daughter--- grandpa, father, son. These people were BORN. They were the result of a SEXUAL interaction between two people. They were carried for 9 MONTHS in the womb of a woman who had to nourish and nurture that fetus enough for it to become a baby capable of at least drawing oxygen. Someone DELIVERED that baby- they saw it open its eyes for the first time, heard its first cries, cleaned the blood off, snipped the ambilical cord and created a belly button. That happened. Then obviously no one tossed the baby to the curb--- someone suckled or bottle fed it, more than likely clothed it, more than likely burped it. And due to US Federal Law- mroe than likely that baby went to school. They were several people's classmates, they had a teacher, they had a doctor, they had people at the local store who may have seen them, they had mental health facilitators if that was necessary at that time in their life. They had ENOUGH love in some form to LIVE until they were selfsufficient. Until they were adults.

These people are our elders now. They need our help.

Every time you see a child today, every time you see a beautiful baby in a stroller- take a moment. That beautiful, innocent, delicate being could become the person people avoid making even slight eye contact with on the streets. They could become the person who when crying for help, having a seizure, or sleeping half naked on the cold brick in winter- is ignored because "they do it to themselves" "they make more money panhandling than you think" "they are disgusting" "They are drunkards" "they are crazy".

They are a reflection of the world you live in. If you cant do it for them then do it for YOU. Becuase YOU deserve to live in a world without homeless, helpless, elderly people suffering on the streets. YOU deserve to live in the most vibrant beautiful environment you can imagine... one without violence, hate, or tears. YOU deserve it. And so do they.
